Jumping back on the truth wagon after falling off.

TRUE CONFESSIONS:  I fell off the ‘Rise Up’ wagon.

I was in a great routine.
You know, the kind of one that I finally looked forward to.
Every morning my body was consistently waking up before dawn.
And, I loved everything about it…

The euphoric feeling of owning my day.
The endorphins from a great workout.
The progress I was making stretching.
The revelation and peace from spending time with the Lord.
The wisdom from reading great books.

That was until I let ONE EXCUSE derail me.
That’s all it took.
One little excuse.
I repeated it to myself enough times.
Until I believed.
And I allowed the lie to dictate my actions.

“It’s okay to sleep in just one day. It won’t hurt me!”

There I was, weeks later. Before I could say cock-a-doodle-do I found myself with a new habit: Sleeping in.

And, I loathed everything about it…
The disappointment from putting off my goals.
The regret from being behind in my day.
The loss of extra hours in my day.
The haze from hitting snooze 62 times each morning.

While I still held to my non-negotiables (things I choose to do each day): working out, time with the Lord, personal development, etc. Completing them later in the day was throwing me for a loop. I was off my game, missing out, and not my best self.

I felt stuck.
Dominated by defeat.
Ruled by regret.
Camped out in condemnation

Sneaky, Satan.
With his subtle lies.
His aim is clear.
To steal.
Kill.
And destroy.

But God!

Thank God his mercies are new each day.
Thank God there is no condemnation in Christ.
Thank God my past is not my future.
Thank God he loves me (despite me).

One little excuse started a ripple effect of negative self-talk and lies that I wasn’t willing to entertain or tolerate anymore.

Enough was enough.

It was time to make a change! No delay + no more excuses. I made a decision, reached out for some accountability. And then I just plain did it.

Hello, 5:00 am – I missed you.
Hello, Endorphins – I can feel ya coming back.
Hello, Lord – can I sit in your presence today?
Hello, Hamstrings – my how tight you are.
Hello, better version of me – You are worth fighting for.

WAKE UP!

Riddle me this – What excuses are you allowing to derail you?

Does this ring a bell?

  • I don’t have time.
  • I’m too tired
  • I don’t have enough money.
  • It’s too late to change.
  • I have too many responsibilities.
  • I have no clue where to start.
  • I’m not good enough

What do all of those have in common? They are all limiting beliefs.

To be clear, a limiting belief is FAKE NEWS we make up in our minds. Limiting beliefs are false thoughts and opinions that prevent us from pursuing the call of God on our life. But wait, there’s more…

Limiting beliefs are straight-up self-imposed lies that create fictitious boundaries on our purpose and potential. Like the electric fence on the perimeter of my house as a kid. (I accepted too many dares to touch it!)

They are a part of Satan’s tactics to keep us trapped in fear and doubt. Believing the lies keeps us from doing important things, like putting our faith in action, pursuing our purpose, trusting God, and maintaining healthy relationships.

Stop the fake news! Not today, Satan!

Seeing ourselves the way God sees us propels us toward our purpose and potential. God’s view removes all limits, doubt, and fear. His truth in us empowers us to believe, “I can, and I will.”

Here’s a friendly reminder, say them out loud right now, wherever you are!

Top 10: What God says about you!

1. I am a child of God.

“But those who embraced him and took hold of his name he gave authority to become the children of God!”
– John 1:12

2. I am a citizen of heaven.

“But we are a colony of heaven on earth as we cling tightly to our life-giver, the Lord Jesus Christ.”
– Philippians 3:20

3. I have peace.

“Then God’s wonderful peace that transcends human understanding, will guard your heart and mind through Jesus Christ.”
– Philippians 4:7

4. God supplies all my needs.

“I am convinced that my God will fully satisfy every need you have, for I have seen the abundant riches of glory revealed to me through Jesus Christ!”
– Philippians 4:19

5. I am enough.

“And our own completeness is now found in him. We are completely filled with God as Christ’s fullness overflows within us. He is the Head of every kingdom and authority in the universe!”
– Colossians 2:10

6. I am forgiven.

“Since we are now joined to Christ, we have been given the treasures of redemption by his blood—the total cancellation of our sins—all because of the cascading riches of his grace.”
– Ephesians 1:7

7. I am set free.

“At last we have freedom, for Christ has set us free! We must always cherish this truth and firmly refuse to go back into the bondage of our past.”
– Galatians 5:1

8. My past is not my future.

“Now, if anyone is enfolded into Christ, he has become an entirely new person. All that is related to the old order has vanished. Behold, everything is fresh and new.”
– 2 Corinthians 5:17

9. I am accepted.

“You will bring God glory when you accept and welcome one another as partners, just as the Anointed One has fully accepted you and received you as his partner.”
– Romans 15:7

10. God will not condemn me.

“There remains no accusing voice of condemnation against those who are joined in life-union with Jesus, the Anointed One.”
– Romans 8:1

It doesn’t matter if you need to start a brand-new habit or reinstate an oldie but goodie. Now is the time. Jump on the bandwagon, friend. God needs you, and so do we!

Change your mind, change your life. It sounds so cliché, but it’s so true.

When we kick limiting beliefs to the curb, we have the supernatural power to change everything:

  • What we think determines what we believe.
  • What we believe dictates what we do.
  • What we do drives who we become.
  • And, collectively, it defines our character.

Show me your thoughts, and I’ll show you your future.

Check out this staggering stat. Did you know that 70% of our thoughts are negative? Ouch.

Some of the most powerful words are the limiting beliefs we keep in our heads that we say to ourselves but never dare speak out loud.

It’s no wonder, so many women wrestle with depression and anxiety. Double ouch.

Our minds are a battlefield. The limiting believes {aka lies} are constantly at war with the truth.

  • The lies try to win.
  • The lies try to take over.
  • The lies try to be the boss of us.

Because the lies know if they win the battlefield of the mind – our emotions, feelings, behaviors, and actions will follow suit.

Not on my watch!

We are flipping the switch.
Right here.
Right now.

You know all those things you’ve always wanted to do?

Let’s go do them.

Think about it…
What do you wish for?
What are you hoping for?
What change do you desire?
What goals are you reaching for?

Now think about why those things aren’t becoming a reality in your life?

Could it be you’ve attached limiting beliefs and excuses to them that are unnecessary? Could it be that you’ve repeated the lies so often to yourself that they have become your truth?

I’m just asking because I want to see you RISE UP!

Recently I was asked to run. Not an ordinary run. But, a run in the dark, with a headlamp, on the sand, for miles and miles with a friend. Not gonna lie; I didn’t want to do it. My mind told me it was too hard, too early, that I couldn’t keep up, and that I might die. {Do you recognize the limiting beliefs in my thoughts?}

But then I paused. How often do I get to try something I’ve never done before? The answer: not often enough. I shout from the roof-tops for all to hear, ‘get comfortable being uncomfortable!’ Because I know that is where change and growth happens.

This was my moment. Time to walk my talk and practice what I preach. Time to stretch myself and step out of the land of comfort and predictability to see what I was capable of. What would it look like to try, to take a risk and a step of faith?

So, despite all my calculated, rational and legitimate reasons NOT to go, I went anyway. I said no to the lies, pushed the excuses aside, and passed on the limiting beliefs.

I showed up…and news flash: I didn’t die.

Instead, I made a memory that I get to carry with me forever. And, I tapped into a slice of courage that was in me all along, just waiting for me to believe it was there. Once again, I am reminded that change and growth are worth fighting for.

Anything we believe about ourselves that doesn’t line up with the word of God is a lie.

Here’s my elementary approach to winning the battlefield of our minds. It’s not fancy or formal. It’s just plain and simple. That’s how I roll. Easy-peasy lemon squeezy. But I know simple doesn’t mean easy. I believe in you, girl. You can do hard things.

Walk It Out: 5 ways to overcome limiting beliefs

1. Recognize it

Make space and time for God to speak. Pause. Take inventory.
Pray: “God show me the lies I’m believing?”

2. Reveal it

Take responsibility – name and own your lie {don’t sugar coat it – be raw and real}.
Pray: “Forgive me, Lord, for believing Satan’s lies x, y, z. I was wrong.”

3. Replace it

Look to the Bible; replace the lies with truth.

I am fearfully + wonderfully made
I am an overcomer
I am worthy
I am not alone
I am more precious than rubies
I can + I will

Pray: “Lord, I believe I am who you say I am.”

4. Restore it

Renew your mind; bring it back to a state of health.
Make a change. Decide to see yourself the way God sees you.
Pray: “Lord, create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me.”

5. Repeat it

Replay 1-4 often and always. This is not a one-and-done scenario. You are in a battle, fighting for your freedom. You can start now by downloading this guide: Walk It Out: 5 ways to overcome limiting beliefs.

Pray: “Lord, help me to serve you continuously.”

God is not calling you to comfort; he’s calling you out of the boat to walk on water.
God is not interested in your ability; he’s interested in your availability.
God is not calling you to simply listen; he wants you to obey too.

It’s time for a change, friend. Don’t listen to the lies another minute. This is your season. Say no to limits and kick the lies to the curb. Stop settling for anything less than who God created you to be.

You are made for more!

If you want something different, you have to DO something different.

  • Picture how you will feel: Peaceful, free, hopeful, energized, and renewed.
  • Discover the possibilities: Oh, the places you will go!
  • Uncover your potential: Life without limits.
  • Envision walking in your purpose: Joy, fulfillment, and peace.
  • Imagine the lives you will impact: People are waiting for the blessings you have to offer.

That is the life God has for you. Believe it, girl. God does (and so do I).

You got this, girl. YOU can do all things through Christ, who strengthens YOU!
